
The government has announced a significant boost to local economic development, with each District Assembly set to receive a minimum of GH¢25 million in 2025.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson revealed this during a parliamentary address, emphasizing the government’s commitment to empowering local governance and decentralization.
According to Dr. Forson, approximately GH¢6.1 billion of the GH¢7.57 billion earmarked for 2025 will be disbursed directly to local assemblies to spur economic activities at the district level.
“Government is guaranteeing that approximately GH¢6.1 billion of the GH¢7.57 billion earmarked for 2025 will be disbursed directly to the local assemblies to spur local economic activities at the district level,” he stated.
The Minister assured that the government has taken decisive steps to ensure that these resources are utilized in line with the government’s economic objectives.
“Our resources extend beyond mere release of funds. We have taken decisive steps to ensure that these resources are utilised in line with the government’s economic objectives,” Dr. Forson added.
This initiative is expected to drive inclusive growth, strengthen local governance, and support the government’s efforts to revitalize the economy from the grassroots level. The announcement comes amidst criticism from the Minority, who had accused the Finance Minister of withholding funds from key government institutions despite available resources.
The government’s commitment to decentralization and local economic development is evident in its allocation of funds to District Assemblies. With this initiative, the government aims to promote economic growth and development at the local level, improving the lives of Ghanaians across the country.
