The High Court in Accra has granted the National Labour Commission (NLC) an interlocutory injunction against the ongoing strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
The court order, issued on June 5, 2025, restrains the GRNMA and its members from continuing the industrial action, which was declared illegal by the NLC.
The injunction follows an ex-parte motion filed by the NLC, arguing that the strike was severely disrupting healthcare services nationwide. Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori presided over the court and ordered the GRNMA, its executives, officers, and members to cease all strike activities with immediate effect.
The GRNMA had embarked on the strike to protest delays in implementing their 2024 Collective Agreement, which addresses key conditions of service. The strike has caused significant disruptions in healthcare delivery, with nurses withdrawing outpatient and emergency services.
The injunction will remain in effect for ten days, after which the NLC must reapply on notice to the GRNMA if further legal action is required.
